CAF will manage resources of the Green Fund for Climate

With this accreditation, the Institution will increase its support to projects dealing with adaptation to and mitigation of climate change in the region

The Green Climate Fund (GCF) Ligia Castro, CAF's Director of Environment and Climate Change expressed, "This accreditation will allow CAF, as a Latin American development bank, to continue supporting the promotion and consolidation of mitigation and adaptation to climate change initiatives through programs and actions aimed at promoting a sustainable and productive transformation through innovative financing operations that are environmentally sustainable and socially responsible".  

The fund's Board announced the 13 accredited entities that will be able to channel the financial resources in developing countries during the meeting held in the Republic of Korea on July 6 though 9. 

  • Africa Finance Corporation.
  • French Development Agency (Agence Française de Développement, AFD).
  • Caribbean Community Climate Change Centre, CCCCC.
  • Conservation International Foundation,CI.
  • CAF, Development Bank of Latin America .
  • Deutsche Bank Aktiengesellschaft (Deutsche Bank AG).
  • Environmental Investment Fund of Namibia, EIF.
  • European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, EBRD.
  • Inter-American Development Bank, IDB.
  • International Bank for Reconstruction and Development, IBRD jointly with the International Development Association, IDA.
  • Ministry of Natural Resources of Rwanda, MINIRENA.
  • National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development, NABARD.
  • United Nations Environment Programme, UNEP.

 The GCF was adopted as a financial mechanism of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) at the close of 2011. Its aim is to contribute to achieve the international community's objectives of mitigation and adaptation to climate change. It is expected that this instrument may become the multilateral financing mechanism of reference to support climate actions in developing countries.
