(Special, August 25, 2008).- The Andean Development Corporation together with the Argentine Ministry of Economy and Production and the Central Bank will hold on August 26 the seminar "The challenges of development in Latin America" which will present the lessons learned from the Reports on Economy and Development RED 2004-2008. The aim of these CAF publications is to reflect on the direction that the countries of the region should follow in order to improve their public policies in the area of development.

The seminar to be held in the Central Bank headquarters will be attended by CAF President & CEO Enrique García, Minister of Economy and Production Carlos Fernández, and Central Bank President Martín Redrado, together with national and international experts who will debate how to achieve expansion of real opportunities for sustained economic progress which result in higher levels of welfare for the inhabitants of Latin America.

The issues discussed in RED 2004-2008 include the fundamental pillars for a strategy of quality growth and development in the region, such as increased international participation, productive transformation and expansion of social opportunities.

Through these studies, CAF offers diagnoses and recommendations in the light of recent evaluations of the successes and failures of public policy, and proposes guidelines to improve public policies in each area considered, which are complemented with cross-sectional analyses of the institutional strength and financing of social policy.
