As a result of an investigation in Colombia with the idea of featuring different views of urban themes through artistic expressions, the Gallery selected works by Carlos Chacín from Santa Marta, Ximena De Valdenebro from Bogota, and Nohemi Pérez from Tibu because of their particular approaches and different perceptions of city life. The artists come from three very different geographic regions.
"For our institution, it is a great pleasure to recognize Colombia through the art of these three creators whose works pose questions for us about the citizen dimension in an continent oriented to integration, which necessarily takes place through exchanges between cities and is intensified by the rapid process of globalization, " Enrique Garcia, CAF president and CEO, said.
To emphasize the city as epicenter of human activity, especially in Latin America where a high percentage of the population lives and works in urban areas, CAF has investigated how artists have treated this theme in Colombia, one of its founding countries.
CAF is also interested in this theme from a cultural and not only an artistic perspective. This support accompanies the institution’s activities in or for the cities through improvements in social and political management by reaching out to local governments and promoting sustainable urban development, as well as developing infrastructure and services to improve the quality of life of their people.
"Encounters: Three views of Colombian contemporary art" will be open from July to October in the CAF Gallery, a space that showcases the multifaceted artistic nature of the Latin American development bank’s shareholder countries, combining exhibitions which range from genuine expressions of popular creativity to elaborate expressions of Latin American artistic genius.
