Cooperation agreement signed with Central Bank

April 30, 2003

The Central Bank of Venezuela and the Andean Development Corporation (CAF) signed an agreement to strengthen their institutional capacity in the areas of research, study, knowledge, dissemination and promotion of matters of common interest.

The agreement was signed by Central Bank President Diego Luis Castellanos and CAF Executive President Enrique García. The liaison officials for the agreement are: for the Central Bank, Director Armando León; and for the CAF, Vice President of Development Strategies Fidel Jaramillo. The work of coordination and regular supply of information will be assumed by Harold Zavarce for the Central Bank, and Osmel Manzano for the CAF.

The mutual cooperation agreement was signed in the framework of the Support Program for Research into Development Issues which the CAF is putting through in collaboration with several academic institutions in the region. According to García, " this initiative contributes to deepening the analysis of the Latin American situation, and to the debate on public policies designed to achieve sustainable development and equity."

The institutional strengthening of the two organizations will stimulate joint activities in research and technical assistance, organization of seminars, workshops and working meetings with a view to promoting the study of areas related to both institutions, setting up systems to exchange academic and scientific information and documentation, and technological resources to facilitate joint work programs. The agreement will have a duration of three years.

This agreement joins a series of cooperation agreements that the Central Bank has been signing with higher education centers since 1994 to promote intellectual, professional and academic development. This experience has taken place with the Central University of Venezuela, Andrés Bello Catholic University, University of Los Andes, University of Zulia, Metropolitan University, Monte Avila University and IESA, among others.
