On Thursday November 29, at 8 pm, all the magic and color of craft toys created in wood can be enjoyed in the CAF Gallery with the opening of " Juego de Juguetes " a unique show that puts together the work of craft artists from Colombia, Peru and Venezuela on the art of making dreams.
With the opening of the "Juego de Juguetes" exhibition the CAF Cultural Center joins in the Christmas festivities.
From next Thursday November 29, the CAF Gallery opens a new exhibition to the Caracas public. "Juego de Juguetes" (Toy Games) is an exhibition of the work of three maestros in the art of making objects that are part of dreams, childhood and the history of humanity in which Colombia, Peru and Venezuela engage in a playful dialogue through the work of Nelber Monsalve, Patricia Tord and Mario Calderón.
Creativity in wood
Games are the excuse for giving life to wood and to approaching craft toys from different perspectives. In his "gymnasium" series, Colombian Nelber Monsalve develops the multiple figures suggested by corporal activity. Acrobats, trapeze artists, rope climbers, pirouettes and horsemen are some of the personages of his circus gallery. This craft artist also explores his own traditions, fashioning with great skill a vallenato music festival, the fiesta of the Caimán, a joropo dance competition and a parade of chair carriers.
The Peruvian Patricia Tord explores the didactic possibilities of toys, designing objects where form, movement and color acquire educational qualities that invite discovery and transformation.
In the case of the Venezuelan Mario Calderón, "his toys are not made to play with but to evoke," in the opinion of the painter Angel Hurtado. The beauty and exquisite aesthetic of his objects are part of the function of the toy itself. Calderón enhances our traditions, transforming them into collection pieces, inspired by traditional dances: the San Juan, the chimbangle of San Benito, the Burriquita, the Tamunangue and the Pájaro Guarandol. He also finds inspiration in the circus and the old-style funfairs.
The "Juego de Juguetes" exhibition will be open to the public all December at the usual times in the CAF Gallery: Monday to Friday from 9 am to 7 pm, Saturdays and Sundays from 10 am to 4 pm.
