Cooperation agreements under Ecuador-Spain Debt Exchange Program signed in Quito

Cooperation agreements were today signed in the Ecuadorian Foreign Ministry, between the Ecuador-Spain Debt Exchange Program represented by the Minister of Foreign Affairs and the Spanish Ambassador, and the executing units of four educational projects in the provinces of Pichincha, Orellana, Esmeraldas and Cañar.
  1. "Integrated Education with Sports Technical Approach" to be executed by the Amiga de Esmeraldas Foundation, amount approved by Debt Exchange Program US$2,166,113 with a local counterpart of US$1,980,289.
  2. "Strengthening of Quality Active and Human Intercultural Bilingual Education for Development of Pueblo Cañari" to be executed by the Provincial Department of Intercultural Bilingual Education of Cañar, amount approved by Debt Exchange Program US$831,165 with a local counterpart of US$302,010.
  3. "Improvement of Teaching Quality and Physical Infrastructure of Schools and Colleges in Francisco de Orellana" to be executed by the Orellana municipal government, amount contributed by Debt Exchange Program US$1,075,000 with local counterpart of US$304,380.
  4. "Improvement of Educational Quality of the Juan Carlos Peralta Intercultural Bilingual Mixed School” to be executed by the Quito Equinoccio Rotary Club, amount contributed by Debt Exchange Program US$450,000 with a local counterpart of US$281,900.
These agreements conclude the signing of the 22 projects approved by the Binational Committee and completes execution of the total amount destined for the Debt-to-Education Exchange Program. The 22 education projects financed by the Program, which cover most Ecuadorian provinces, are executed by municipal and provincial governments, universities, educational institutions, community organizations. The projects benefit of over 250,000 children, 8,000 teachers, 32,000 heads of family and 3,400 illiterate persons with infrastructure, equipment, teaching materials and training.
