The Training Program for High Management enabled Latin American mayors to exchange experiences and lessons regarding public management in their localities
July 04, 2016
CAF, Development Bank of Latin America, held the Executive Program for Latin American Mayors in Governmental Management and Communications in Buenos AIres, aimed at strengthening local management and integration of new practices in public management.
The training included the participation of local authorities from Argentina, Bolivia, Chile, Panama, Paraguay, Peru, Dominican Republic, and Uruguay. It included the exchange of experiences of real case studies in policy management in cities, and promoted a style of leadership that encourages best practices in governance and public management, improvements in the quality of decision making processes, and administrative modernization based on transparent management and ethical norms that regulate the use of power in a democratic framework.
Christian Asinelli, CAF's Director for Institutional Development, stated, " The purpose of this training is to strengthen the competencies and skills of the mayors with respect to policy management and public management, to consolidate governance and the capacities of the local governments that we have invited to participate in this training".
The training took place during 5 days that included theoretical courses, practical activities, and technical visits to four Argentinean municipalities to learn and exchange experiences in local public management.
CAF promotes an agenda focused on addressing the main governmental challenges, particularly in the areas of decentralization and local governments, staff training, transparency, citizen participation, and open government. For this, it works on strengthening the public sector to enable a greater management capacity and to have stronger local governments, both at the sectorial and local levels.
Since 2001, CAF, Development Bank of Latin America, has supported the region by providing human capital training, specialized in public management, leadership, and governance through diverse training programs.
