Experts in Quito analyze importance of business environment

  • The IV International Meeting for Competitiveness and Improvement of the Business Climate, organized by CAF, invites national and international experts.

(Quito, May 20, 2008).- The Andean Development Corporation will hold next May 27 in Quito the IV International Meeting for Competitiveness. The keynote theme of the meeting, which will be attended by national and international guests, will be improvement of the business climate. The objective is to exchange ideas and experiences on improving the business environment and its importance for competitiveness in the region.

The keynote address will be given by David O'Donovan, international consultant and former member of the Irish Industrial Development Agency (IDA). The speaker will present the Irish case as an example of world success in the area and of the importance of the business environment in improving the competitive position of countries. Also present will be Fabio Valencia Cossio, Senior Presidential Counselor for Competitiveness of Colombia; and Germán Bürcher, Secretary of Development, Innovation and International Relations of Argentina, among others. For Ecuador the Minister of Industries and Competitiveness and the Minister Coordinator of Production will present their views. The event will be closed by the vice president of the Republic Lenin Moreno.

High level representatives of public and private organizations from Argentina, Bolivia, Costa Rica, Ecuador, Mexico, Peru and Venezuela will describe specific local and international and experiences to illustrate how these have played an important part in the productive transformation processes in their countries. One of the topics to be discussed will be the role and importance of trade associations, business, social organizations and other actors in improving the production environment.
