Strengthening the projection of Latin America and favoring its interests in the global scenario, is one of CAF's main objectives. For this reason, several conferences were held in 2014, contributing to consolidate an extensive network of alliances for knowledge regarding the region, and to make this region more inclusive and integrated to the world.
With more than 115 speakers and more than 2,000 participants, London, Beijing, Washington and Oxford directly witnessed the synergies of CAF together with universities and think tanks such as the University of Oxford, the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE), Sciences Po, Ilas Cass and Dialogo Interamericano (Inter-American Dialogue).
These meetings were also seen through the networks. More than 35 thousand interactions in social platforms in 42 countries, and 11.8 M in Twitter are proof of this. In Livestream, more than 8 thousand people followed the meetings, representing an increase of 78 percent with respect to 2013.
In January, the CAF-LSE alliance promoted the first annual conference in London, "the booming global south: toward an agenda for the new century". The characteristics of the emergence of the south in the global scenario were analyzed here, together with the challenges to define a strategic agenda with a vision for the future. The fourth annual CAF-Ilas Cass Conference was held in April, called "From informality to development. Urbanization, entrepreneurship, and competitiveness in China and Latin America. From a comparative perspective, the challenges and opportunities for both parties were debated in order to build a close, dynamic, and balanced relationship.
The XVIII edition of the Annual CAF Conference was also held in April, but this time in Washington DC, in alliance with the Inter-American Dialogue and the Organization of American States, to analyze the most relevant prospects for the region and their role in the global context. In October, Oxford was the scenario for discussion, focused on the Latin American middle classes and their link to subjects such as education, informal work, and security.
