(Caracas, November 7, 2007).- In the headquarters of the Andean Development Corporation, a US$27-million loan agreement was signed with Guayaquil Municipality for the North Sector Sanitation Sewerage Project. The executing the agency is the municipality itself through Empresa Cantonal de Agua Potable y Alcantarillado (ECAPAG).

Execution of the project will improve the living and health conditions of 175,000 people who inhabit three marginal urban sectors in the north of the city, specifically Bastión Popular, Cooperativas Varias and Los Vergeles.

CAF President & CEO Enrique García said that the loan provided new financial support from CAF for the development plans of the city of Guayaquil, with the aim of improving the quality of life of its inhabitants in line with Ecuador’s Millennium Goals. The project is part of the Corporation's objectives to support the sustainable development of shareholder countries.

The proposed investments involve construction of 44,000 new sewage connections, 565 kilometers of sewage collection network, and 12 pumping stations, among other investments.

The total cost of the project is US$49.3 million, of which 55% represents the CAF contribution; US$16.9 million will be financed by the Guayaquil Municipality, and the remaining US$5.4 million with a contribution from the INTERAGUA concession holder.
