I meeting of governance and leadership graduates of Peru

CAF, Development Bank of Latin America, organized a meeting with more than 350 graduates from the Governance, Policy Management, and Public Management Program and the Leadership for Change Program in the I National Meeting of Graduates in Governance and Leadership of Peru, held in Lima, in order to follow up on the contribution of the training courses for political and social leaders in the country, as well as to hear their opinions regarding their institutional quality, and to present the platform  Red Latinoamericana de Gobernabilidad (RLG) (Latin American Governance Network).

After highlighting that the programs currently have close to 50 thousand graduates at a regional level, Christian Asinelli, CAF's Director of Institutional Development, stated that this is the first Graduate Meeting carried out in a member country, as a result of the quality of the two main allies: the Escuela de Gobierno y Políticas Públicas de la Pontificia Universidad Católica del Perú (PUCP), (School of Government and Public Policies at Peru's Catholic University) and the Instituto de Gobierno y Gestión Pública de la Universidad Particular San Martín de Porres (UPSMP) (Government and Public Management Institute of the Universidad Particular San Martin de Porres)

In addition, he stated that this event constitutes the starting point for the launching of CAF's Red Latinoamericana de Gobernabilidad (RLG) (Latin American Governance Network), an exchange platform with experts and interaction spaces for graduates from different countries that will also have ICT tools, access to bibliography,  Facebook community, and future calls for on-site meetings and update courses, seeking to improve public policies in the region.  

Eleonora Silva, CAF's Director Representative in Peru, hghlighted the importance of the Governance and Leadership Programs which have, for more than one decade, brought together people with capacities and potential to share values, knowledge, and a series of aspects that enable development at the national, regional, and local government level, private companies, and organizations of the civil society, as well as acquire effectiveness and create awareness of how important it is to have a democratic framework. 

Carlos Alza, Director of the School of Government and Public Policies at the PUCP, greeted this Meeting of Graduates from "two sibling programs", for the construction of capacities of public officials, as well as to improve the functioning of the State. In this respect, he reaffirmed the commitment of his institution to continue the process to strengthen the State's capacity to transform the country.  

Iván Hidalgo, Academic Coordinator of the Government and Public Management Institute at the UPSMP, expressed the satisfaction of being one of the first institutions to join this CAF initiative, and indicated that synergies must be added, and the RLG consolidated, to qualitatively and quantitatively improve the capacities of public officials, all of which should lead to the development of the region. 

In the framework of this activity, Mercedes Iacoviello, expert on Law and Public Administration in Argentina, was in charge of the keynote speech "Tendencias de las Reformas del Estado en América Latina" (Trends of the Reforms of the State in Latin America), which was commented by Carlos Alza, specialist in Reforms of the State at the PUCP, and Oscar Benavides, President of the Association of Municipalities of Peru (AMPE, for its acronym in Spanish).
