As part of the commemoration of the 179th anniversary of the founding of the Republic of Bolivia, the prestigious Bolivian folkloric group Jach’a Mallku (Great Chief in Aymara), sponsored by the Bolivian Embassy in Venezuela, will make two appearances in Caracas on the 4th and 5th of this month.

Their first performance will be in the Sala José Félix Ribas of the Teresa Carreño Theater; and on the following day the group will give a recital in the Antonio José de Sucre Auditorium of the Andean Development Corporation (CAF).

Identified with the telluric expressions of Bolivia, the art of Jach’a Mallku has traveled to the most discerning venues of America and Europe. The group has produced almost 20 records and has won five gold and three platinum disks.

Its members are expert interpreters of autochthonous instruments such as the charango (small five-stringed guitar), the quena (reed flute) and the zampoña (panpipes), which complement perfectly their coordinated voices, in a repertory which includes huayños, cuecas, taquiraris, morenazas, ballads, kullawas and all the rich folklore of the mountains, valleys and plains of Bolivia.

The Jach’s show their skills on the acoustic charango temple diablo, the electro-acoustic charango, acoustic and electro-acoustic guitars, the electro-acoustic ronroco, bass drum, cymbals, quenas and quenachos and all the family of zampoñas. Its members are Franz Chuquimia, founding director; Gonzalo Cabrero, José Aguilar, Windsor Chacón, Germán Ibáñez and José Antonio Arano.

The group has performed with great success at the festivals of Cosquín, Argentina; Inti Raymi, Perú; Ecology, Norway; Medmorgan, Sweden; Folklore International, Denmark; Insieme, Italy; Bolvia with music in the Vatican; World Festival of France; Folclore Latino, France; Music of the World, Canada; Pertan Boy, United States.

The presence of this prestigious group in Caracas is possible because of the initiative of the Bolivian Embassy and the cooperation of the CAF, the digital telephone company Telcel, the Venezuelan National Cultural Council (Conac), and Líneas Aéreas Bolivianas (LAB).
