(La Paz, April 13, 2007).- Representative of the Andean Development Corporation (CAF) in Bolivia José Carrera and La Paz Prefect José Luis Paredes opened the Hornuni-Caxata highway, which becomes the second road connection between La Paz and Cochabamba departments, facilitating the economic integration of rural localities with agricultural, mining and tourism potential.

CAF financed a total of US$6 million for asphalting the Hornuni-Caxata highway with a 30-kilometer extension which connects the localities of Quime and Khonani in Inquisivi and Loayza provinces. The La Paz Prefecture contributed US$1.5 million from its own funds. The new road section connects, from the southeast sector of the department, the Aroma, Loayza and Inquisivi provinces with Cochabamba.

CAF representative José Carrera said the modern infrastructure work would facilitate the economic integration of rural municipalities and stimulate the productive development of the Altiplano and valleys. Specifically, the work will benefit the people of Konani, Hornuni, Puchuni, Tablachaca, Caxata and Quime by cutting travel time and distances in the rainy season.

The CONVISA company was in charge of the construction of the section. Supervision and inspection was the responsibility of the Departmental Road Service (SEDCAM).
