On this occasion the CAF Gallery offers an exhibition conceived as an example of the high quality of the Latin American art owned by some Venezuelan collectors.
"Since the first half of the 20th century in Venezuela, important collections have been formed not only of national and Latin American art but also modern European art. The oil boom, art galleries, museums, artists and a state commitment to develop knowledge and culture favored the practice of collecting art. The geographical location of Venezuela on the Latin American map is another factor that strengthened this practice in the country. As the gateway to the rest of the continent, Venezuela had the opportunity to host major exhibitions of Latin American and European masters," the distinguished Venezuelan art critic, Bélgica Rodríguez, said.
As Anna Mercedes Botero, head of the CAF External Relations Office, explained, "This exhibition confirms CAF’s effort to support and disseminate Latin American art. The CAF Gallery showcases the multifaceted artistic nature of the Corporation’s shareholder countries, combining exhibitions that range from the most genuine expressions of popular creativity to the most elaborate expressions of the Ibero-American artistic genius.” In the past, the gallery has paid homage to important plastic artists of the stature of Oswaldo Vigas, Francisco Narváez, Enrique Grau and Alfredo Boulton, and others such as Edgar Negret, Víctor Valera, Ángel Hurtado and Oscar Pantoja.
