Latin American Congress of Social Sciences organized jointly with FLACSO

CAF and FLACSO sign agreement to hold the Latin American and Caribbean Congress of Social Sciences.
The Congress will take place on October 25 in the presence of CAF President & CEO Enrique Garcia and prestigious panelists.

(Quito, October 1, 2007).- The Andean Development Corporation and the Latin American Faculty of Social Sciences (FLACSO) signed a technical cooperation agreement to hold the Latin American and Caribbean Congress of Social Sciences on October 29 next during the celebration of the 50th anniversary of the institution.

The event will take place with the presence of CAF President & CEO Enrique García, who said he was pleased to offer support to an institution of excellence in higher and postgraduate education in the Latin American region, and to contribute to the common objectives and efforts which FLACSO and CAF pursue to increase social welfare.

García emphasized the importance of the Congress, which will open a space for reflection and debate on key problems of development and knowledge building in Latin America and the region.

CAF will also contribute specialists to speak on important issues such as preservation of the environment, remittances, and education.

The Congress aims to raise regional standards of research in social sciences and promote the exchange of social science teaching materials in and for Latin America.

The Latin American and Caribbean Congress of Social Sciences is a multidisciplinary event which will cover issues such as:

  • Democracy and public processes
  • International relations and integration
  • Economy and development models
  • Environment, society and risk management
  • Migration and culture
  • Poverty, exclusion and inequality, among others.
