Leaders of the digital ecosystem will meet in Mexico for the 2016 Latin American Telecommunications Congress

In its fourth edition, the Congreso Latinoamericano de Telecomunicaciones 2016 (CLT16) (2016 Latin American Telecommunications Congress) will once again transform Cancun, Mexico, into the Latin American debate capital of the Telecommunications sector. The meetings will include the participation of actors, academics, public policy makers, and regulators of the regional digital ecosystem in a series of events that will enable the presentation and discussion of the great challenges and opportunities faced by the Latin American digital ecosystem. 

From June 20 to 23, the most important annual event for the discussion of ICT public policies in Latin America will promote sharing and analyzing best practices and solutions to strengthen the development of telecommunications, promote investment, and walk toward the objective that all Latin Americans become part of the Connected Society, with everything this means for the social and economic development of the region. 

The organizers of the CLT 16 are the Unión Internacional de Telecomunicaciones (UIT) (International Telecommunications Union), the Secretaría de Comunicaciones y Transporte de México (SCT) (Communications and Transportation Secretariat of Mexico), CAF, Development Bank of Latin America, the GSMA (Global Association for the Mobile Ecosystem), and the Asociación Interamericana de Empresas de Telecomunicaciones (ASIET) (Inter-American Association of Telecommunications Enterprises).

The event is also supported by organizations such as Latin America & Caribbean Network Information Centre (LACNIC), Internet Society (ISOC), and the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN). Also collaborating with the event is the regional Interdisciplinary Network of Research Centers, CPR LATAM, which will have its annual meeting bringing together the most important ITC academics in the region. 

The future regulation of the digital ecosystem will be one of the key topics of the event, at a time when the rhythm of regulatory changes does not have the speed of the changes in the digital world. Other subjects will be dealt with during the CLT 16, such as investment in infrastructure, the opportunity that the telecommunications industry presents for the socio-economic development of the region, and the privacy and security challenges for the digital economy.  With the participation and collaboration of the main actors, organizations, and associations of the digital ecosystem, the meeting is a new opportunity to stimulate the dialogue toward a common agenda that helps close the digital gap and opens paths toward the construction of a single digital market in the region.
