The four multilateral banks which will finance this project will subscribe an agreement to maximize coordination between them and facilitate its implementation. The document, called Principles of Collaboration, will be signed by representatives from the Inter-American Development Bank, the European Investment Bank, The World Bank, and CAF -Development Bank of Latin America. The major of Quito, Augusto Barrera, and the Finance Minister of Ecuador, Fausto Herrera, will sign as witnesses of honor.
The act where the document will be signed will take place on December 6th, during the solemn session to commemorate the 479th anniversary of the founding of San Francisco de Quito, in the Teatro Sucre, at eleven o'clock in the morning.
The agreement stipulates that the four multilateral banks will work jointly to facilitate the flows of information and decision making to benefit the metro project, under the coordination of the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB).
Less time to move about the city
The use of the Quito metro will allow its inhabitants to move between the north and south parts of the city in approximately 33 minutes, introducing new mobility patterns in the Ecuadorean capital, which currently has a high and increasing demand for efficient public transportation.
The first line of the Quito metro will reduce the travel times, reduce the operational costs of the transportation service, improve connectivity, security, and comfort of the current system, and reduce contaminating emissions and greenhouse gasses.
Financing will be provided by the above mentioned multilateral organizations, and also as a local counterpart by the Ecuadorean government and the Municipality of Quito.
Technical characteristics of the Quito metro
The Quito metro will be a fast and efficient public transportation system, with a length of 23 Km. It will have 15 stations and its route will be completely underground. The route connects the city's main attraction sites.
The metro will enable the connection between the city's two extremes, leading to new mobility patterns. The distance between stations varies between 500 and 1,500 meters, and will operate at speeds close to 40 Km/hr.
The rolling stock is made up by 18 formations of 6 subways cars of which 4 are motor cars, with capacity for 1,270 travelers (at a service level of 6 passengers per m2), a maximum speed of 100 Km/hr and track widths of 1,435 meters. With respect to the facilities, the metro will have an ATC (Automatic Train Control) sign posts system which will guarantee the control of the railway network, allowing for a follow up of the itineraries of the trains in real time.
