CAF, Development Bank of Latin America, and the Centro Mario Molina (CMM), sign an agreement to boost scientific research and technological innovation, especially applicable to the fight against climate change

April 14, 2016

The agreement between the two organizations includes exchange of knowledge and development of programs and projects with a strong environmental component, as it will encourage the efficient use of energy, best practices in the fight against climate change, and preservation of the environment.

In addition, it intends to generate consensus between diverse social actors and promote the transformation of public policy proposals into real solutions that respond to the priority demands of the region.

The agreement includes the following objectives:

  1. Carry out activities related to research, experimentation, and data management in the adoption and implementation of measures that contribute to mitigate climate change and other social phenomena.
  2. Propose, study, and develop regulations, norms, and in general, any kind of technical specifications, directly, or in collaboration with others.
  3. Promote and propose research, technological development, and innovation programs in the spheres of action of CAF and the CMM.
  4. Provide specialized technical assistance to CAF or any other institution financed by CAF.
  5. Promote and update the development and technical and scientific knowledge of CAF's staff and of the Public Administrations of CAF member countries, through courses integrated to the technical training processes and continuous technical/professional education in the areas of social development, financial inclusion, and long-term public policies that stimulate productivity.
  6. Promote the generation and capitalization of knowledge regarding climate change and environment, and public private associations that promote competitiveness and sustainable development in Mexico and Latin America.
  7. Organize fora, seminars, and technical meetings at a national and regional level.
  8. Disseminate and publish the information resulting from the Macro Agreement.

With this alliance, CAF reinforces its support to the institutional development of its member countries through programs, projects, and meetings that promote transformation and productive diversification, and encourage entrepreneurship and innovation.

The CMM is a non-profit, independent civil association, whose mission is to find practical solutions to complex problems related to the fight against climate change and the promotion of sustainable development, sustainable use of energy, and protection of the environment.
