CAF will reach 35% green financing in 2024

CAF approved USD 100 million to improve the operating capacity and maintenance of the sanitary sewage in La Mariposa system, in addition to the collection and purification systems of the sewage waters in the area of influence of the basin of Lake Valencia.

With the purpose of supporting Venezuela in the sanitation of Lake Valencia and its area of influence, CAF, Development Bank of Latin America, approved USD 100 million to optimize the operating capacity and strengthen the maintenance process of La Mariposa System.
Enrique Garcia, The Institution's Executive President, stated that "From CAF we promote coverage in potable water and sanitation services and management and protection of basins, through studies and financing of projects and investment programs aimed at improving the quality of life of the population according to the particular needs of each country".
Specifically, the projects financed by this approval will include the design, rehabilitation, and expansion of the Planta de Tratamiento de Aguas Residuales (PTAR) La Mariposa (La Mariposa Treatment Plant for Sewage Waters), and the collection and purification of sewage waters in the area of influence of Lake Valencia's basin.
The project includes the execution of the environmental management plan of the works, and the construction of the collection and interception systems that will enable the improvement of the environmental and social conditions of the communities that are close to the area of influence.
The total cost reaches USD 125.5 million, of which 80 percent corresponds to CAF's loan, and 20 percent are resources from the local counterpart. The executing agency is the Ministry of Popular Power for the Environment, through Hidrocentro.
