(Caracas, August 28, 2009).- With the objective of providing the region with more efficient municipal organizations, CAF set up the Regional Program for Modernizing and Improving Local Administration (Prameg) in 2007. The results for the third year were today presented in the headquarters of the multilateral bank in Caracas in a ceremony with the participation of CAF Vice President and Deputy CEO Luis Enrique Berrizbeitia; CAF director of Governance and Technical Cooperation, Elvira Lupo; and representatives of the municipalities of Oruro and Sucre (Bolivia); Armenia and Manizales (Colombia); Ambato and Manta (Ecuador); Piura and Trujillo (Peru); and Naguanagua and Sucre (Venezuela).

Luis Enrique Berrizbeitia said, "the objective is to help municipalities provide more efficient services, attention and response to citizen needs." "With tools such as Prameg, local governments are able to improve and modernize their land registry systems with a view to efficient territorial planning which reflects transparency, quality and fast response for the taxpayer; and financial autonomy for the municipality to develop plans and execute priority projects jointly with the community," the CAF vice president added.

"CAF's work in the area of governance - Berrizbeitia said - is reflected in innovative activities which promote a democratic culture and ethical values, targeted at the leading organizations of civil society, political parties and the media."

To address this aspect of development, CAF focuses on four areas which supplement and integrate with each other; namely: ethics and transparency for development; institutional strengthening, decentralization and citizen participation; and leadership for transformation.
