It is estimated that Latin America could save up to USD 21,4 billion in energy consumption if it equated its energy intensity to that of the countries of the European Union. In addition, the Regional Energy Efficiency Program (PREE, for its acronym in Spanish) estimates that during the next two decades the region will have to invest USD 315 billion on diverse energy efficiency projects to supply energy to the population and guarantee the security of the supply.
In an effort to maximize the interventions that promote energy efficiency, CAF, Development Bank of Latin America, conducted the study Energy Efficiency in Chile: Identification of Opportunities, which identifies the sectors, measures, and strategies that may be applied in Chile.
The report determined six strategic measures to improve the country's energy efficiency:
