Strengthening democratic governance through local administration

CAF delivered the results of the Regional Program for Modernizing and Improving Local Administration to local governments in Bolivia, Colombia, Ecuador, Peru and Venezuela.

(Caracas, March 13, 2008).- In the Andean Development Corporation in Caracas, ten local governments from the Andean region received the results of the Regional Program for Modernizing and Improving Local Administration (PRAMEG) from the multilateral organization. The objective of this initiative is to improve the efficiency of municipal organization.

 

CAF President & CEO Enrique García said that "in its continuing effort to give integrated support to its shareholder countries in their social, economic and political needs, CAF has been incorporating democratic governance into its action plans in recent years." He explained that the report on PRAMEG covers actions that reflect the importance of the local sphere for CAF, working for a common objective, improving the quality of life of the countries and their citizens. "The results achieved to date stimulate CAF to continue accepting the challenges of the region and seek efficient and creative solutions for its shareholders."

 

CAF director of Governance and Technical Cooperation Elvira Lupo said that the objective of PRAMEG "is to create more efficient organizations with capacity to plan, manage, increase their income and coordinate their actions obtaining resources to guarantee more efficient provision of services and respond to the needs of their citizens, through a process to modernize local government."

 

On the issue of governance, the Corporation focuses on four integrated and complementary primary areas: Ethics and Transparency for Development; Institutions; Decentralization and Citizen Participation; and Leadership for the Transformation.
