Support for musical training program in Bolivia
Interim Economic Development Minister Walter Kreidler and CAF Executive President Enrique García signed an agreement for the execution of the "Action Program for Music" to be implemented by the Office of the Vice Ministry of Culture. Director General of the National Music Conservatory, Nicolás Suárez, signed as witness of honor. The program makes a contribution to musical education through teacher refresher courses, and education and training for children and young people.
The program of musical instruction, understood as an educational tool to strengthen social and community capital, is part of the variety of social programs that the CAF is promoting in Andean countries, in the framework of sustainable development. The main objective is to strengthen and accentuate virtues that model individual and collective conduct.
According to García, music contributes to the training of human capital because artistic sensibility awakens values that help create closer family and social links, strengthen the social fabric, and promote solidarity and community responsibility.
He added that social harmony and artistic discipline make possible the structuring of a new generation of children and young people with a great commitment to service. The multinational financial institution is convinced that human and musical energy awakens consciousness in homes and in the community.
The “Social Action Program for Music" conceived by the CAF has four components: the Youth Symphony Orchestra of the Andean Countries; the Traveling Andean Conservatory; the Lottery Andean Traveling Workshop; and the Andean Choral Voices. Bolivian youth and children form part of all these artistic groups.
The Youth Symphony Orchestra of the Andean Countries, founded in 2000, is formed by 160 children from Bolivia, Colombia, Ecuador, Peru and Venezuela. The orchestra has toured all the Andean nations and recorded a CD. The Andean Traveling Conservatory holds workshops on instrument instruction, and works with children and youth from low-income sectors to promote leadership, stimulate competitive capacity and train local teachers as multiplying agents in each country.
The Andean Choral Voices complement CAF’s orchestral efforts. This initiative is designed to contribute to the development of children and young people who live marginal conditions in Andean countries. Andean Choral Voices will hold a concert in Caracas in the near future, and tour the other Andean nations toward the end of the year.
