At the seminar on Competitiveness in tourism from the promoters, today the CAF announced its support for sustainable development projects in Andean countries with an investment estimated at one million euros. The pilot region for this initiative will be the city of Mérida in southwest Venezuela.

It was also announced at the seminar, which was held in Barquisimeto, in Venezuela’s western region, that the fundamental objective of this initiative is to integrate socio-economic elements and to enhance the quality of life of the inhabitants of Bolivia, Colombia, Ecuador, Peru and Venezuela, countries in which pilot destinations have been chosen with a view to achieving the greatest possible demonstrative effect.

The first stage consists of identifying and diagnosing the pilot destinations. It is estimated that four feasible projects will be selected to receive funding in each location of the Andean countries.

In the case of Venezuela, once the project has been developed in Mérida, cities in the western, eastern and central regions of the country will be incorporated, bearing in mind their tourism potential.
