Thir third version of the Governance Program starts in Bolivia

With the purpose of training leaders in the public service, with a comprehensive and ethical vision of regional policies to enable them to take actions toward democratic transformation processes and social change in Bolivia, CAF, Development Bank of Latin America, in alliance with the Postgraduate National Faculty of the Universidad del Valle (UNIVALLE), inaugurated the third version of the Governance, Policy Management, and Public Management Program. 

Emilio Uquillas, CAF's Director Representative in Bolivia, stated, "For CAF it is very important to contribute to strengthen Bolivia's human capital and support the country, not only with resources for infrastructure works, where the Institution is the main financer, but also to develop capacities that lead to an efficient, citizen-oriented public administration." 

This course, that will last six months, seeks to train public officials, technical teams, and leaders of the civil society whose functions are linked to government issues and social management, so that they acquire capacities that enable them to build technical and political feasibility, take on a transforming leadership anticipating scenarios, develop governance networks with effective communications, design and apply public policies with value, and achieve a strategic vision that provides them with the opportunity to manage the political mandate and projects that are result-oriented. 

The program, promoted and partially financed by CAF with the academic support of The George Washington University, is also supported by UNIVALLE in Bolivia, and by other prestigious universities in  Argentina, Brazil, Colombia, Ecuador, Panama, Paraguay, Peru, Uruguay, and Venezuela, where the courses are also taught. 

Uquillas pointed out that the financial entity develops these actions in order to strengthen the institutions and democratic governance of countries, and improve public management, seek effectiveness, and contribute to develop and identify emerging leaderships of the social life. 

At the same time, Lucía Rodríguez Torresi, representing CAF's Direction of Institutional Development (DDI, for its acronym in Spanish), stated that the bank promotes a diversified agenda aimed at the main initiatives of the governments of Latin America. She pointed out that the bank focuses on the local sphere where public management needs tools and knowledge for the promotion of the process, institutional strengthening, and sustainable development. 

The inauguration ceremony included the participation of Carlos Cornejo,Regional Postgraduate Director at UNIVALLE;  Carlos Decker, National Coordinator of the Program; Emilio de la Cruz, Municipal Mayor of Mecapaca; and Emilio Yanaguaya, Departmental Assembly member, who welcomed the students from La Paz and the other Departments that participated  through video-conferencing.
