(Special, May 18, 2009).- Mara ngela Holgun, CAF director representative in Argentina, and Walter Barrionuevo, governor of Jujuy province, signed a non-reimbursable technical cooperation agreement which contributes to strengthening and implementing the Provincial Tourism Development Plan. The signing took place in the offices of the multilateral development bank in Buenos Aires.

"This project has a high strategic and demonstrative value because of the commitment by the Jujuy public authority to implementation of the Sustainable Tourism Development Plan designed, with CAF support, in 2004," the CAF official said. "In recent years, Jujuy has joined the group of Argentine provinces committed to development of tourism."

An important factor, in this respect, is the recent UNESCO declaration of Quebrada de Humahuaca as a World Heritage site in the category of cultural landscape, which has committed national and provincial governments to implementation of an integrated policy to develop national and international tourism in Jujuy.

The components of the Sustainable Tourism Development Plan are, first, draw up new regulations for the hotel sector - a fundamental link in the chain - whose legislation dates from 1981. Second, generate a management system for tourism activity in the province by re-engineering the provincial department of tourism and culture.
