About three thousand boys, girls, and adolescents at risk, from two districts of Lambayeque, two of Cajamarca and four districts of Lima benefit from the Somos project Un gol para la vida (A Goal for Life). This project will be implemented in the framework of the activities of the SOMOS network, an initiative promoted by CAF, Development Bank of Latin America, in alliance with Right to Play Internacional and the support of Asociación Odebrecht Peru, to promote the practice of sports among school children as a prevention and social inclusion mechanism during the next three years.
The launching of the program in the north of the country was in charge of CAF's Social Development Vice President, Jose Carrera, and Alfonso Pinillos, General Manager of Concesionaria Trasvase Olmos, who officially delivered sports equipment and first aid kits at the I.E. N° 16155-Huabal, Jaen, to benefit more than 300 school children in the country's northern region.
SOMOS A Goal for Life. benefits school children from the Lima districts of San Juan de Miraflores, San Juan de Lurigancho, Los Olivos and San Martin de Porres, as well as the districts of San Felipe and Pomahuaca in Cajamarca, and Cañaris and Santo Domingo de Olmos in Lambayeque, located in the area of influence of Tranch 2 of Lima's Metro, the Vias Nuevas de Lima Project, Concesionaria Trasvase Olmos and Irrigación Olmos Project. Jose Carrera, CAF's Social Development Vice President, stated that "Sports are one of the main activities to promote the development of children and youths in Latin America. This program allows families from poor neighborhoods to access sports practices that make it possible for the children to learn, train, and get skills for life. We seek, through sports, to create a healthy generation, promoting educational models using sports as an inclusion mechanism for children who are socially vulnerable, in order to strengthen values, self-esteem, solidarity, and team work".
The implementation of this project in Peru is possible due to the technical cooperation agreement subscribed in the city of Lima by CAF's Executive President, Enrique Garcia, and the Director Superintendent of Odebrecht, Ricardo Boleira, on December 3rd of 2013.
