URS Holdings will carry out an environmental impact study for Line 2 of the Panama Metro

CAF, Development Bank of Latin America, awarded the contract to carry out the environmental impact study to USR Holdings, Inc. for Line 2 of the Panama Metro. The selection was made based on the proposals received through public bidding.

The selected company fulfilled all the requirements demanded at the call, which include, among other aspects, experience in environmental impact studies for urban transport infrastructure projects in Latin America and the world, an organizational structure to provide services, and a multi-disciplinary team that can address the technical as well as environmental aspects, such as structure, mobility, and safety. 

The purpose of this study is to guarantee an adequate and justified prediction, identification, and interpretation of the environmental impact the generated by the project, in addition to defining the technical suitability of the measures proposed to avoid, reduce, correct, compensate, and control significant adverse impacts. 

CAF will finance the study in order to provide support for the implementation of basic technical analyses of Line 2 of the Panama Metro. The executing agency is the Panama Metro Secretariat, which shall subscribe the contract with the awarded consultant. 

URS Holdings, Inc. is a company with an international network of offices in almost 50 countries. It is one of the largest and most diverse providers of the engineering industry, integrating construction and technical services. 

CAF has been linked to the construction of the Panama Metro. It contributed with close to USD 600 million, representing 33% of the total cost of the first line works, which is already operational, and which transports close to 30 thousand people per hour.
