USD 200 Million to Reduce Chronic Child Malnutrition in Ecuador

CAF’s Board of Directors approved a USD 200 million loan for Ecuador, to support the government’s actions to reduce chronic child malnutrition in the country, with an emphasis on the first 1,000 days of life. The loan will finance activities aimed at improving information systems, funds allocation and monitoring mechanisms, and governance and institutional strengthening initiatives.

“At CAF we are implementing specific lines of action to support countries of the region in the fight against chronic child malnutrition, based on an effort to promote adequate health, favorable environments and food security. In the case of Ecuador, this loan is part of the second phase of CAF’s support for this strategy and is a token of our commitment to the comprehensive development of the nation and the entire region,” said Renny Alberto López, CAF’s interim executive president.

The actions set out in the loan will be led by the Technical Secretariat, which will have ministerial-level authority, will report directly to the executive branch, and will work in coordination with the Ministries of Economic and Social Inclusion, Public Health and other key entities involved in the process, with a leading role by the Ministry of Economy and Finance (MEF).

During 2016–2020, CAF approved credit operations for Ecuador for a total of USD 4.51 billion, of which USD 3.72 billion have already been disbursed. The Ecuador portfolio at the end of December 2020 totaled USD 4.12 billion.
