Moira Paz Estenssoro, director of Corporación Andina de Fomento’s (CAF) office in Brazil, and Victor Lippi, Mayor of Sorocaba, São Paulo state, Brazil, signed a loan for USD 43 million. These funds are intended to finance the “Environmental and Social Integration Program” being undertaken by the municipality, which has resorted to foreign financing for the first time and has chosen CAF to that end.

The purpose of the program is to produce a positive impact on the quality of life of the population by building adequate infrastructure for the municipality and reducing travel time within the city and also facilitating travel between the city center and the outlying districts. The total cost of the program is USD 85 million, 50% of which is being financed by the Corporation.

The idea is to join up the western and northern areas of Sorocaba with the industrial part of the city and, at the same time, link up Avenida General Carneiro with Avenida General Osório. All this will make it possible to reduce travel time within the city itself and to the outlying districts, which will definitely have a positive impact on the quality of life of the inhabitants.

As for the environmental aspects of the program, it is worth mentioning that the city’s drainage will be improved, as the areas prone to flooding and rising water levels will be reduced by the construction of civil and hydraulic works.
