The executive president of the Andean Development Corporation, Enrique García, and the director of the UNESCO International Institute for Higher Education in Latin America and the Caribbean (IESALC / UNESCO), Claudio Rama signed today in the CAF headquarters an agreement on joint activities related to the development of higher education in Latin America.

According to Enrique García, "CAF is interested in promoting the sustainable development of the region because investment in education has been shown to be one of the factors with greatest impact on economic development." He added: "This is why the Vice Presidency of Social and Environmental Development is financing sustainable programs in the sector with a high impact with a participative approach. CAF’s aim is to generate a space for critical reflection on education, based on strategic alliances with specialized institutions."

For his part, Claudio Rama said the agreement would expand the work that IESALC’s work was doing in the region to develop higher education. The agreement creates spaces for academic, scientific, cultural and operational cooperation which will increase the presence of the CAF in areas linked to higher education, especially in its shareholder countries.

The IESALC is a UNESCO institute whose mission is to achieve a deeper and permanent transformation of higher education in Latin America and the Caribbean, capturing and analyzing trends and promoting research and exchanges. For more information visit the website http://www.iesalc.unesco.org.ve/.
