(La Paz, August 19, 2010).- As part of its 40th anniversary celebrations and in a heartfelt private ceremony, CAF distinguished the Bolivian engineer Julio Sanjins Goytia, who was its president from 1976 to 1981, for his contribution to the strengthening and growth of the institution founded in 1970. The recognition was presented by CAF President & CEO Enrique Garca during his latest visit to Bolivia.
"We wish to give a well deserved recognition to Julio Sanjins for his contribution to CAF and deep commitment to the integration and development of its partner countries reflected in an effort that gave continuity to the process of institutional and administrative consolidation," Garcia said.
Accompanied by his family and personal friends, the former CAF president received the distinction in his private residence. He thanked CAF for the tribute and said he was satisfied and proud of the growth achieved by the institution for the benefit of Latin American citizens.
During the Sanjins administration, CAF continued to strengthen with actions such as the signing of the Seat Agreement with Venezuela (1978) and approval of the general and staff regulations. Also, in 1978, as part of the activities of expansion of fund generation operations, the institution obtained the first syndicated loan in international banking, led by Bank of America.
In addition to continuing to strengthen its normal operations, CAF entered sectors which are priority for the development of its shareholder countries, such as oil and agro-industry.
