Winners of the VI edition of the Ibero-American Economic Journalism Award

More than 140 articles, reports, interviews, and other information formats from more than 45 communications media of the region were presented in this edition of the award. The idea was to award articles related to innovation for development

The jury selected "Etnia Kuna lucha por su mejoría con ayuda de FAO en Isla Tigre" (Kuna ethnic group fights to improve with FAO's support in Isla Tigre) as the best article in the Daily Press category. The work by Cándida Acosta, published in Listín Diario (Dominican Republic), received the recognition for the social dissemination of how innovation may be the path to solve some of the problems in the region.  

The award for best article in the Non-Daily Press was given to "La Dama de la Ampliación" (The lady of expansion), published in the weekly supplement MARTES FINANCIERO of Panama, for its innovative approach in highlighting the role of women in the construction of the most important infrastructure of America in the past decades. 

The jury also highlighted and awarded second place in the daily press category to the report "Sin innovación no hay desarrollo" (Without innovation there is no development), published in the Nicaraguan newspaper, La Prensa, written by journalist Yohany Lopez. In the non-daily press category, the recognition went to "Biotecnología impulsa nuevos negocios" (Biotechnology promotes new businesses), published in El Financiero of Costa Rica by journalist Carlos Cordero.

Special awards went to Dinero (Colombia), Diario Financiero (Chile), and La Voz del Interior (Argentina).

The VI Economic Journalism Award highlighted the work of three communications media for their promotion of economic and entrepreneurial culture in Latin America. 

Diario Financiero (Chile) was the winner in the best daily activity media category, for its wide coverage of economic issues. Created in 1988, it has 40 workers that generate more than 14,850 news per year in its printed version, and more than 16,250 in its online edition per year.  

The magazine Dinero (Colombia), stood out as a non-daily publication for its work in the dissemination of economic information and development of the entrepreneurial agenda in Colombia. Created in 1994, it has 47 collaborators, among journalists and columnists, and has 260,000 readers in its printed weekly edition.  

La Voz del Interior (Argentina) was recognized as the best published media outside the capital, for its work providing economic information. This new category, created for the first time in the VI edition of the Ibero-American Economic Journalism Award IE BUSINESS SCHOOL, intends to highlight the increasingly relevant role of the press outside the capital citiesof Ibero-America. Among the 56,000 articles published by this media last year, those related to innovation and the economy had a relevant weight, especially through its supplement Negocios.

The jury of the VI Edition of the Journalism Award, in charge of reviewing the works signed by over 100 economic journalists from Ibero-America, includes executives from the entities that organize the event: IE Business School, one of the most important business schools in the world, CAF, Development Bank of Latin America, and Softland, a group with a long trajectory in the world of solutions for entrepreneurial management. The jury also included personalities from the world of journalism, such as CNN, BBC, and the Wall Street Journal, among others.

The event distributes USD 11,000 in prizes for the best journalistic notes in the region. In the first five editions, more than 800 articles have been presented, written by 400 journalists and published in 200 communications media. 

About the organization

The event is sponsored by CAF, Development Bank of Latin America, and Softland. It is also supported by CNN in Spanish, Iberia, Cinco Días, and Casa de América.

The award ceremony of the VI Edition of Ibero-American Economic Journalism Award will be held on October 20th at Casa de America in Madrid. Cinco Dias will be the communications media associated to the event, and Iberia will be the official airline.
