Enrique García personally verified the advances of the works for the future branch of the international organization in the Uruguayan capital, where it will provide services for the Southern Region made up of Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Chile, Paraguay, and Uruguay. During the visit, García was accompanied by the Mayor of Montevideo, Daniel Martínez, and Marcos Taranto, Director of Stiler, the construction company in charge of the project.
With respect to the works being carried out where the old Central Market was located, a few meters from the Executive Tower and the Solis Theater, CAF's President commented that "works advance according to plans, and we are optimistic with respect to the inauguration of our new offices in 2018".
Garcia highlighted, "This is an entrepreneurship that fills us with pride as it will also provide us with the opportunity of consolidating our presence in the country and the Southern Region, and will also contribute to revitalize a strategic area in the city from diverse angles. Once finished, Montevideo will have a modern and attractive building, the cultural and gastronomic offer will expand, and dozens of parking spaces will be generated in the Old City".
On the same line, Martínez highlighted the multilateral organization's contribution to the city through an "emblematic work", aligned with the objective of the mayor's office to promote the creation of a "Neighborhood of the Arts" in the area.
In addition, the major appreciated the fact that an entity such as CAF, a development bank that is acquiring so much importance in Uruguay and Latin America", chose Montevideo to build its new offices for the Southern Region.
The construction of the building, which will demand an investment of USD 40 million, started in January of this year. Currently, 48 workers and technicians work in adapting the areas of the structure of the Central Market that will be kept, to start the remodeling tasks. In addition and in parallel, work is being carried out for the necessary excavations to make the foundations of a new building.
Shortly and until the work is completed. vehicles will not be allowed to travel on Reconquista. Traffic in the other streets that circle the construction site will be affected, but not completely interrupted.
The project includes the construction of 15,678 square meters, and 7,955 square meters of exterior space. It will house CAF's offices, a cinematographic complex with capacity for 406 spectators, gastronomical spaces, and the renowned Baar Fun Fun, which will reopen its doors in a similar location to the one it had for years. In addition, the complex will have more than 250 parking spaces.
The advance of the work and more details on the project may be seen in the images published here, where there is also a video created by renowned filmmaker Esteban Schroeder.
