Don't let another 200 years pass!
CAF - the development bank of Latin America and the Caribbean, Special Olympics, and the Government of Paraguay have launched a joint campaign to raise awareness and advocate for the rights of people with intellectual and developmental disabilities, aiming to educate society on the importance of inclusion and respect for the human rights of this group.
The campaign, inspired by Article 19 of the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Intellectual Disabilities, highlights the rights to independent living and inclusion in the community. While Latin American countries celebrate 200 years of independence, the campaign poses a crucial question: When will people with intellectual disabilities achieve their independence and the full realization of their rights?
The goal is to challenge society to reflect on the barriers that people with disabilities still face and recognize that the fight for their equality remains an unresolved issue on the public agenda. The collaboration between Special Olympics, CAF, and the Government of Paraguay seeks to generate real and lasting change, promoting a culture of inclusion and respect that ensures all people, regardless of their abilities, can enjoy their rights and actively participate in society.
The campaign aims not only to raise awareness but also to inspire collective action. Citizens, organizations, and government entities are invited to join this effort for a more inclusive society by sharing the message on social media and sending the video to their friends and family.
The campaign's launch coincides with the Special Olympics Latin American Regional Games, where athletes from 23 countries will compete in 14 disciplines from October 4 to 12 in Asunción, Paraguay.
