Integration in Latin America: the Role of Regulations, Administrative Procedures and Physical Infrastructure

CAF–Development Bank of Latin America–calls for research proposals addressing topics related to integration in Latin America, with a special focus on the role of regulations, administrative procedures and physical infrastructure. The specific topics of interest in this call for proposals include:

• Effects of trade facilitation and regulation homogenization on trade levels in the region’s countries.
• Quantitative assessment of the effects of physical infrastructure works on trade levels and costs.
• Quantitative assessment of the effects of infrastructure works on the spatial distribution of production.
• Macroeconomic impacts of Foreign Direct Investment (FDI), i.e. productivity, employment, skill sets, spillover effects on other companies, etc.
• Effects of energy integration on energy cost, energy sector performance, and international energy trade, especially electricity and/or natural gas.
• Impact of telecommunications infrastructure works on trade levels and costs in the region.
• Determinants of regional integration levels (trade, IED, etc.) over the past three decades.
• Determinants of FDI in the region.
• Interaction of ICTs and transport infrastructure in trade decisions and production localization.

This is not an exhaustive list – any proposal to study aspects relevant to integration will be considered. Projects that generate evidence for Latin America will be particularly considered.
