Principal Attorney (Sovereign Sector Operations)
To work from our Office in Trinidad & Tobago, for the Sovereign Risk Legal Affairs Directorate, we are looking for a university professional in Law with a Master's degree in financial, commercial, legal or banking topics. Candidates must be fluent in the Spanish language and have an advanced level of English (both conversational and technical-essential-). Portuguese is desirable.

Those who wish to apply for the position must have a minimum of ten (10) years of specific experience in financial entities (commercial banking, investment banking, pension fund, insurance companies) or multilateral financial entities. Experience in law offices or firms, handling corporate, financial or banking matters. With experience in Corporate Financial Law (desirable)
The main objective of this position is to provide legal advice to the different areas of the organization, for the evaluation, approval, formalization and administration of sovereign risk operations, as well as to answer queries related to them and the situation of the Caribbean Countries, to through the analysis and issuance of legal opinions, with the objective of ensuring compliance with the organization's internal regulations and the laws of the countries where the organization maintains operations, in accordance with the Legal Consulting guidelines.
This position requires mastery and technical knowledge in:
- Solid understanding of financial concepts and application of procedures pertaining to financial areas and other disciplines.
- Knowledge of sovereign risk financing operations in financial institutions.
- Knowledge of financial and/or commercial law and a good understanding of the processes for contracting goods and services, public tenders, development of infrastructure or experience with the public sector.
- Extensive experience in legal advice to management bodies and internal committees.
- Deep experience in identifying and mitigating legal risks.
The main challenges and responsibilities of the position holder will be:
- Legally advise the support areas of the organization in the different contracting of goods, services and works, with the objective of ensuring that the necessary legal documents that satisfy the requirements of the organization are prepared and negotiated.
- Document and negotiate sovereign risk operations, prepare opinions legal advice, provide legal advice to business and support units, in the stages of origination, formalization and closing of sovereign risk operations.
- Follow up on operations once closed and provide advice, as wellhow to review and document waivers for sovereign risk clients.
