The 49-km Monteagudo-Muyupampa road will benefit more than 25,000 residents of Chuquisaca and will allow linking the departments of La Paz and Oruro with Potosi, Chuquisaca and Santa Cruz, as well as regional integration between Peru, Bolivia, Paraguay and Argentina.
This 49-km stretch received funding from CAF of USD 89.2 million as part of the project to build the Monteagudo-Ipati road, which is part of the Northwest-Southeast “Diagonal Jaime Mendoza RVF6” system, located in southern Bolivia, in the Department of Chuquisaca, in the Hernando Siles and Luis Calvo provinces.
The opening ceremony was held in the town of Cruz Pampa, near the most modern weighing and toll station in Bolivia, on the occasion of the festivals of Monteagudo and with the presence of the President of Bolivia, Evo Morales, the Minister of Transport and Public Works, Milton Claros; the Governor of Chuquisaca, Esteban Urquizo, and Gladis Genua, CAF representative in Bolivia, as well as local authorities of Guarani communities in the area and the mayors of Monteagudo and Muyupampa.
During the event, the President of Bolivia highlighted the investments that Bolivia is making to complete the Jaime Mendoza road system, which is vital for national integration and that was “only a dream” at the start of his administration. In this regard, he explained that several sections have already been completed: Huanuni - Bombo - Llallagua - Chacapuco and Zudañez-Padilla; Padilla-El Salto and Muyupampa-Ipati are under construction, and the final design for construction of El Salto-Monteagudo is already being studied.
Morales congratulated ABC for the completion of the project and stressed how vital it is for everyone to pay the toll to ensure that the roads are well maintained, just as he did when he arrived. He said that he is pleasantly surprised by the new toll station, which is the most modern in Bolivia.
This and another 28 road infrastructure projects carried out with technical and financial support from CAF are expected to improve both regional and international integration of Bolivia.
