Research Projects - Intergenerational Mobility in Latin America
Through this call we seek to finance up to three research projects that help to understand the patterns of intergenerational social mobility in Latin America, as well as the mechanisms and policies that favor or hinder it.
Latin America exhibits one of the world’s highest levels of inequality. Despite promising progress during the 2000s, countries of the region have barely seen any reductions—if not flat-out increases—in inequality. The economic and social crisis brought about by the COVID-19 pandemic threatens to aggravate this picture in the coming years.
The inequality experienced by today’s population is rooted in the disparity experienced by the previous generation, as living conditions are carried forward consistently and varyingly from parent to child. Understanding the main barriers to social mobility is paramount to designing policies that enhance the well-being of Latin Americans, regardless of their starting point in life.
Through this call we seek to finance three research projects (of up to USD 15,000 per project) that help to understand the patterns of intergenerational social mobility in Latin America, as well as the mechanisms and policies that favor or hinder it. To apply, you must complete this online form by February 21.
