Project Finance Congress on infrastructure in Latin America to be held in Brazil
To discuss the most appropriate instruments for attracting funds for structured financing in Latin America, International Business Communications (IBC) will hold the Fifth Annual Project Finance Congress in Rio de Janeiro (Brazil) on September 20 and 23, with the presence of Latin American experts and the support of the International Project Finance Association (IPFA). The program consists of the presentation of 12 practical cases on projects such as Costanera Norte, Transmilenio, Transantiago, Camisea and Cia. Azucarera Vale do Rosario.
The key presentations will be given by Chilean Assistant Secretary of Public Works Clemente Pérez, who will explain the strategies adopted by the Chilean government to attract funds for infrastructure works; CAF Infrastructure Vice President Antonio Juan Sosa on the IIRSE - the 12-government initiative to integrate Latin American infrastructure with support from the CAF, IBD and Fonplata; and Project Finance Director of Tecgas Argentina Jorge Dimópulos, who will talk about structured operations in the oil and gas sector.
The event will open with the presentation by the managing director of Banco Espírito Santo de Investimento (Portugal), Pedro Ferreira Neto, who will lead the session on the structuring of competitive project finance operations. Participants will discuss all stages of the creation of a project finance model, from financial viability to legal aspects such as risk allocation. All the discussions will be illustrated by practical experiences selected by the speaker.
In the full session, Carlos Braga, head of the Latin American capital market area at ABN-AMRO Bank, will present the opportunities for the project finance model in the region. A series of discussion panels will follow on how to guarantee new investments in the countries of the region, with IPFA Chairman Jeff Healey; the head of the infrastructure area of the MIGA multilateral agency, Philippe Valahu; and other executives.
Other topics of interest at the event will be the discussions on the participation of pension funds in project finance operations, as well as four special workshops on project finance in the mining, telecommunications, hydroelectric, and oil and gas sectors.
