Sculptures of Series of Summer in Artespacio
La Paz
February 19 to March 19, 2009
(La Paz, February 17, 2009).- The “Series of Summer” exhibition of bronze sculptures by Bolivian artist Juan Bustillos will open in the CAF Art Gallery, Artespacio from Thursday February 19 in this city.
With 26 years of experience in sculpture, Bustillos, native of Coroico, has developed great ability in sculpting and has explored a variety of techniques, especially casting with vegetables, with which he has achieved one of his best works, the "African Queen."
“Series of Summer” shows sculptures created in bronze and wood inspired by the hot climate of Los Yungas and the sensations this produces.
"I live for sculpture; it is my beginning and end. Creating works of art is reward in itself," said Juan Bustillos about the work to which he has dedicated his life and which has given him greatest satisfaction.
Thanks to a scholarship, he studied and perfected the lost technique of wax in the Japanese School of Art. This technique uses beeswax, which makes a perfect reproduction in the mold, capturing the smallest details.
Based on these studies he has continued researching and experimenting with different materials to achieve perfect, impeccable and original sculptures. The artist now lives in the city of Santa Cruz, Bolivia.
Artespacio is located in the building of the CAF representative in Bolivia in Av. Arce Nº 2915, San Jorge, La Paz. The exposition is open to the public in office hours. Admission is free.
