From February 22nd until March 4th, six cities in Colombia will be holding the II National Festival of Prison Theater, with the participation of theater groups from the penitentiary centers of Armenia, Bogota, Cucuta, Itagui, Jamundi, and Monteria. A date with second opportunities to enjoy the presentations, open to the public, that will take place in important theaters of each city.
Using theater as a tool to generate opportunities for incarcerated populations is an unprecedented project in Colombia. An experience led by the Fundacion Teatro Interno in alliance with CAF, Development Bank of Latin America and its Social Innovation initiative, where art becomes a therapeutic and educational instrument for personal change, social rehabilitation, and social inclusion for people who are incarcerated.
The groups "Reclusión de Mujeres" from Armenia, "Reclusión de Mujeres El Buen Pastor" from Bogotá, the "Complejo Carcelario y Penitenciario Metropolitano" from Cúcuta, the "Establecimiento Penitenciario y Carcelario de Reclusión Especial y Pabellón Justica y Paz" from Itagüí, the "Complejo Carcelario y Penitenciario" from Jamundí, and the "Establecimiento Penitenciario de Mediana Seguridad y Carcelario" from Monteria, will compete for the most valued award, that is, to be selected as the best group, to make a single presentation in the Ibero-American Theater Festival in Bogota, which will be held on March 18th at the Fanny Mikey National Theater.
