With the motto “Climate action for sustainable development: driving change in Latin America and the Caribbean,” the Latin America and the Caribbean Climate Week (LACCW) 2018 will be the umbrella for a series of events that will support in the implementation of the Paris Agreement’s Nationally Determined Contributions, the sustainable development goals and the Global Climate Action Agenda.
The main event, the Latin American and Caribbean Carbon Forum -LACCF, will focus on issues like climate resilient infrastructure, carbon markets, sustainable transport, production and sustainable consumption, climate financing, cities, among others. The Forum is part of a group of regional forums held each year in the context of the Nairobi Framework Partnership led by the Secretariat of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), which include: the Asia Pacific Climate Week, the Africa Climate Week and Innovate for Climate.
This event is an opportunity to come into contact with experts, turn plans and ideas into actions and learn first hand about their experiences. The program is comprehensive and extensive, with plenary sessions, parallel thematic dialogues and training sessions. The Forum features an exhibition space that is ideal for identifying business opportunities and connecting with organizations that can provide support, cooperation agencies, and potential investors and service providers.
In addition, as part of the Forum, CAF will lead the organization of three discussion panels. The first panel, called “Climate resilient, low carbon infrastructure,” the second, to discuss “Climate compatible cities” and the third, on “Climate finance.”
The event will be attended by German Ríos, representative director of CAF in Uruguay, who will participate in the inauguration of the Forum. The UNFCCC Executive Secretary, Patricia Espinosa, the Minister of Climate of Fiji, Inia Seruiratu, and Tomasz Chruszczow, Poland’s Special Envoy for Climate Change, among other leaders are also expected to participate.
