Brasilia Quartet on concert tour
The Brasilia Chamber Quartet is one of Brazil’s most prestigious chamber music groups. The ensemble formed by Ludmila Vinecka, Claudio Cohen, Glésse Collet and Guerra Vicente on violin, viola and cello. For ten years, the group has developed a varied repertoire of styles from different epochs, with emphasis on the work of local composers.
The group, which is visiting Venezuela for the first time, will give its only concert on August 23 at 6:30 p.m. in the Antonio José de Sucre Auditorium of the Andean Development Corporation. They will interpret a work for strings by the Brazilian composer César Guerra Peixe, Quartet Nº 2, and Quartet Opus 27 of the Norwegian composer Edward Grieg.
Acclaimed by public and critics alike, the Brasilia Quartet has successfully toured France, the United States, Argentina, Uruguay, Paraguay, Japan, China and Malaysia. On this tour, the group plans to visit Venezuela, Ecuador and Peru.
In recognition of its artistic achievement, the group has received many prizes, including the Sharp Prize for Best Classical Music Recording and the Luiz Estevao Prize for Culture. It has issued three recordings. The first, edited in 1993 combines the music of Villa-Lobos, Dvorak and Ravel. In the second (1994), the group interprets the classics of popular Brazilian music; and the third (1996) presents the work of the Brazilian composers Heitor Villa-Lobos, Carlos Gomes and César Guerra Peixe.
