Agreement signed with Peruvian executive to strengthen national strategy for risk reduction in development
In response to a request from the Presidency of the Cabinet (PCM) to strengthen and stimulate the work being done by the Multi-sectoral Commission for the National Strategy for Risk Reduction in Development, the CAF granted Technical Cooperation for US$26,500.
The outlook for incorporating the prevention approach into planning and management for development, proposed by the Peruvian government, is in line with the mandate of the Andean Presidential Council for the countries of the region, which the CAF has been backing through the PREANDINO program.
The National Strategy establishes a general policy framework to guide the actions of development agencies in the process of risk reduction and formulation of instruments to improve institutional capabilities in this field.
The cooperation assistance granted by the CAF is part of one of its strategic lines of support for strengthening the sustainability of development.
Disasters such as the “El Niño” Phenomenon (FEN) 1997-98, which caused Peru a loss of US$3.5 billion, led to the decision to direct efforts toward affecting the actual causes of the disasters.
