In a moving ceremony held on August 8 in the City Room, Quito Municipality declared Enrique García, executive president of the Andean Development Corporation, CAF, Distinguished Guest of the City of Quito.
Quito Mayor General Paco Moncayo, speaking on behalf of the counselors and the people of Quito, said that “Enrique García is one of the most outstanding personalities in Latin America. He is in Quito to participate in the process of solving one of the city’s most serious problems: transport and the road system.” Mayor Moncayo added: “for the support that Enrique García is providing for the development of the Andean peoples and, especially to us in Quito, we, the people of Quito, have great pleasure in declaring him a Distinguished Guest of the City and making him one more citizen of Quito.”
Enrique García, expressing his appreciation for the honor, said: “I feel very proud to be part of this act. It is very satisfactory to see the spirit with the which Ecuador is moving ahead with the process of strengthening local authorities. This shows very clearly the capacity of Latin Americans to do the things they want to do. Success comes from one’s own efforts and the commitment to build an agenda that improves the quality of life of the population.”
Also, during the ceremony nine agreements were signed to start road building solutions in various intersections of the city. The first stage of the Road Plan will cost $71 million, of which the CAF will contribute $50 million.
