A date with jazz and Gonzalo Micó in the CAF’s Auditorium
Thanks to the sponsorship of the Andean Development Corporation (CAF), this Thursday, jazz lovers will have the opportunity to enjoy the versatility of one of the top exponents of this musical discipline in Venezuela, Gonzalo Micó and his Jazz Quintet.
The concert is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. in the CAF’s Antonio José de Sucre Auditorium. The repertoire will include tunes by Cole Porter, George Gershwin, Charlie Parker, the gypsy guitarist Jean Batiste Reinhart, and original pieces by Gonzalo Micó himself.
The Jazz Quintet, a classic formation of three basic instruments -piano, double bass, and drums- joined by Micó’s guitar and a vocalist, manages to create a jazz atmosphere of the first order.
Gonzalo Micó, a graduate of the Guitar Institute of Technology in Hollywood, California, studied guitar under Joe Diorio and composition with Carl Schroeder.
In 1982, he made his first record, Cinemascope, one of the first jazz albums made in Venezuela, with which he started a career of musical productions. The following year, he recorded Be-Jazz-Art, and in 1985 he put out Gonzalo Micó, a production with his own compositions.
During his career he has worked as a session musician recording on discs of outstanding musicians and his compositions have been played by artists such as Rubén Riera, Gastón Irazábal, Luis Julio Toro, Marcus Vinicius, Pablo Gil, Ivan Adler and Isabel Santos. Besides that, he has played with legendary musicians such as James Moody, Claudio Roditi, Ted Shumate, Jim Ates and Longineu Parsons.
