Venezuela: Enrique Grau Exhibition praised by critics
The exhibition Enrique Grau In Memoriam currently showing at the CAF’s Art Gallery, and that will be open until September 7, has received high praise from art critics. This selection was inaugurated last week at an event at which the book Enrique Grau – Homenaje by the art critic Bélgica Rodríguez was presented.
The exhibition consists of 14 of Grau’s works that cover the artist’s pictorial universe, always keeping to the theme of the human figure, the feminine figure basically, where what stands out is the portrait, charged with internal depth, that constructs its own context and its own visual story.
Grau’s drawings –some of the full figure, others just showing the face- reveal a kind of personal diary of the artist and of whoever was posing for him at the time. He was also fond of the self-portrait, where he reflects the physical changes he underwent on his journey from adolescence through to the last days of his life.
Enrique Grau as a constructor of realities, contributed generously to his country, not only with his artistic creations, but also with his work as a teacher and as a promoter of young talents, as the friend of many artists from all parts of the world, and as a promoter of culture, particularly in Cartagena.
He produced set designs for the Colombian theater. His passion for the cinema led him to make forays into this medium and to make several movies. He also undertook civic works that now stand in Cartagena, Bogotá, Cali and Medellín as witnesses to his multifaceted work, not to mention the murals and sculptures that are testimony to his transcendental art.
The selection of Grau’s works on exhibition at the CAF is open Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 pm and 2:30 p.m. to 6:00 p.m., on Saturdays from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., and on Sundays from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.
