Ethics, quality and endeavor in Latin American journalism

This is the suggestive title of a book, no less suggestive, with which the CAF Secretariat and Corporate Communications Department started the series Colección Periodistas del Siglo XXI: Espacios para el Debate Creador (Journalists of the XXI Century: Spaces for Creative Debate).With this series, the CAF aims to bring together the presentations of participants in seminars and workshops which contribute to the exchange of ideas and opinions on internationally important issues of great interest to communicators.

This first edition, devoted mainly to ethics, was presented in the seminar on journalistic quality held on August 30 and 31 in Monterrey, Mexico by CAF Executive President Enrique García, and the president of Fundación Nuevo Periodismo Iberoamericano (FNPI) and Nobel Literature Laureate Gabriel García Márquez. The work is a collection of the presentations of the seminar held in Monterrey, Mexico, in September 2003, organized by these two institutions.

In the prologue, Enrique García says that the CAF is proud to be able to generate new spaces for creative debate, given the institution’s concern for demonstrating the parameters and values that lead to sustainable development, based on an integrated approach in the economic, social, and environmental areas.

The first book in the series - García said - is the CAF’s latest contribution to the spreading of knowledge and innovative approaches to the training of leadership cadres, committed to values that favor more structured and harmonious societies.
