Ecuador: CAF and UNESCO sign agreement
CAF representative Luis Paláu Rivas and UNESCO representative for Bolivia, Colombia, Ecuador and Venezuela Gustavo López Ospina signed an agreement for the publication of the book "World Heritage in the Andean region."
The Andean Development Corporation is a multilateral organization that promotes, among its objectives, the arts that represent the regional heritage. Heritage is perceived by the senses and reveals the importance of tradition seen as revelation of future transmitting past. This heritage animates the present and has its roots in the local - in villages and urban areas.
In this context, CAF supports the joint initiative of UNESCO and Ecuador to bring this publication to fruition and achieve a closer relationship between authorities, institutions and experts in the Andean area in relation to the understanding, development and integrated management of heritage sites and assets.
The publication gives international visibility to the Andean sites and makes a valuable contribution to educational and cultural work among the peoples of the Andean region, reinforcing their identity and cultural roots. The book will also help prevent the looting, destruction and smuggling of assets, species and plants which affect the diversity of the heritage sites.
Other organizations from the Andean region are participating in the publication of the book, which will present the 33 heritage sites and assets of the Andes in large format in English and Spanish with a CD.
